What is the Training Visa (TITP)?

The Training Visa is a government-regulated program that allows foreign nationals to work and train in Japanese companies for a limited period. It aims to transfer knowledge and skills from Japan to developing countries like Sri Lanka.

The visa is issued in stages:

  • Technical Intern Training (i): 1st year
  • Technical Intern Training (ii): 2nd and 3rd years (after evaluation)
  • Technical Intern Training (iii): 4th and 5th years (available in selected sectors with good performance)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old (generally preferred)
  • Have basic educational qualifications (often O/L or A/L)
  • Pass a Japanese language exam (JLPT N5, NAT-TEST Level 5, JFT-Basic, or JLCT)
  • Be physically and mentally fit to work abroad
  • Have no prior long-term stay in Japan

Required Documents

  • Valid passport
  • Completed visa application form and photo
  • Basic educational certificates
  • Japanese language test certificate (N5 level or equivalent)
  • Medical certificate
  • Certificate of Eligibility (COE) issued by the Japanese organization
  • Training plan approved by OTIT (Organization for Technical Intern Training)
