Visa Overview

Japan Training Visa from Sri Lanka – Build Skills, Gain Experience, and Grow Globally

The Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), commonly known as the Training Visa, provides Sri Lankans with the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience in Japan while developing practical skills in industries such as manufacturing, construction, agriculture, caregiving, and more. This program is ideal for young individuals looking to build their careers through structured on-the-job training abroad.

What is the Training Visa (TITP)?

The Training Visa is a government-regulated program that allows foreign nationals to work and train in Japanese companies for a limited period. It aims to transfer knowledge and skills from Japan to developing countries like Sri Lanka. Interns are placed in specific industries and must return home after completing their training.

The visa is issued in stages:

  • Technical Intern Training (i): 1st year
  • Technical Intern Training (ii): 2nd and 3rd years (after evaluation)
  • Technical Intern Training (iii): 4th and 5th years (available in selected sectors with good performance)

To apply for the Training Visa, Sri Lankan applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old (generally preferred)
  • Have basic educational qualifications (often O/L or A/L)
  • Pass a Japanese language exam (JLPT N5, NAT-TEST Level 5, JFT-Basic, or JLCT)
  • Be physically and mentally fit to work abroad
  • Have no prior long-term stay in Japan
